New “Secured by VeraCapt” seal: photos are bound to time, place and device at the moment they are taken and sealed. The method has been filed with the European Patent Office (EP 26206878.6).

Wuppertal, 25 September 2026. Comcentra IT-Consulting GmbH is launching its vehicle records software Comcentra Logs with the “Secured by VeraCapt” seal. Handover and return records thus become tamper-evident, from the first photo to verification by third parties. The new version is available now.

Lease return, driver change in the fleet, workshop visit or vehicle transfer: at every handover the same question arises, namely whether damage was already there before. On 28 October 2025 the Higher Regional Court of Stuttgart (case 6 U 84/24) made clear that damage at lease return must be proven item by item, with photo documentation, description and a traceable valuation. Lump-sum repair costs are not enough. The scale is considerable: around 52 percent of all new cars in Germany are leased (DAT Report 2026). Property damage from road accidents alone adds up to 26.4 billion euros per year (BASt 2024).

Common handover apps deliver a PDF with a signature. What remains open is whether the photos in it were really taken on that day, at that place and of that vehicle. This is where VeraCapt comes in: every photo is bound to time, place and device as it is taken and sealed so it cannot be altered. Uploading from the gallery is not possible. Comcentra filed the method for proving the authenticity of image and video material with the European Patent Office on 23 September 2026 (application EP 26206878.6).

Comcentra Logs then seals the entire record with all photos, odometer readings, damage markings and signatures. The seals are additionally anchored publicly in the Bitcoin blockchain. So nobody can change or backdate anything unnoticed, not even the provider itself. Every record carries a QR code. With it, customers, insurers or assessors check for themselves in seconds whether the document is genuine and unchanged.

Comcentra Logs is aimed at lessors and fleets, dealerships and workshops, vehicle logistics and transfer services, car rental and car subscription providers as well as insurers. Delivery, workshop, transfer and return come together in an unbroken history per vehicle.
